Last week of May

It's hard to believe it is already the end of May.....

Started my week with flu/covid vaccinations.... tick that box....

Crochet blanket was finished and another started... the next one is a mix of blue/grey/white

Between Embroidery Guild on Saturday and Quilt Group on Tuesday and Guild again today these Sashiko style blocks were done.... (yes, I'm a groupie)

I have been sewing blocks for a friends quilt so in between these ender/leader blocks have been done... they are supposed to join the others which have been put in such a safe place I can't find them!  They will turn up sometime.... (I hope)

My jacket!! I am thrilled with it - except my machine just wasn't handling the buttonholes.... I don't know why but I did read the automatic buttonholer (which mine is) can sometimes play up with difficult fabric... I have garment sewing on Sunday so I will take it with me and April will help me conquer that part.....

It was a disappearing 9 patch block and I wasn't able to make the front halves be opposites but they do match... and look at my pattern matching pockets!!!

This week has cooled down considerably, so it looks like it has been finished just in time!

Righto, Gotto Go......  I can smell the coffee is ready...... have a lovely weekend...x

Third Week of May

The big chop is happening (70"square) and sewing has started.  I do need to purchase some fabric for a binding - the bits I have are just not the right brown.

This was a quilt I made my daughter some years ago but her colour choices are quite different now.. it is lovely and soft from many washings - and I'm excited about a new winter jacket.

Block #10 of Caswell is done.....

This week at Quilt Club I got these 4 Sashiko blocks sewn....

... and today at Embroidery Guild I did these 4 ....

I'll need to sit down and trace more out .....

Righto, Gotto Go..... time for a gin and tonic before supper.....

Have a good rest of the week...xx

Second week of May

Another busy week.... today is a pyjama day and I am tidying up half finished bits I started..

My finish this week is my new pink linen dress.  I had started this at the garment workshop with April but only did part of the bodice.... so the rest is done now.  It was 6 inches longer but that looked too much like a nightie...  I'm happy with it now.....

A friend has a dress in this pattern and April made up a pattern from the dress for me...  the linen should soften a bit with washing and wearing....

This week I sewed up my two Neighbourhood blocks...... (sewing along with Susan

the first two streets are sewn together.... that's half way through...

Floral Funners (Brisbane group) these sections are sewn together.... up to date on this...

Leaders and enders whilst I was sewing these means there are four new scrappy stars done...

... and for hand work this week I pulled out my faithful, endlessly patient Sashiko 365 and have these 5 blocks....

... and now the first 100 are done!!!

- looks a bit wishy washy in the pictures, the detail is only really noticeable close up....

I really need to pay this more attention ... they are not hard to do, I just get easily distracted....

Crochet has been done, and some applique work...

Widget turned 16!  Went straight off to get his L plates and managed 2 hours of driving in the first 24 hours including in pouring rain... and he got a Jeep.. a real Jeep.  A very sweet (but sad) story, The jeep was owned by an aunt (on his dad's side) and they had a very close fond connection.  The aunty passed suddenly and the family kept the Jeep for him.  Yesterday the other aunt and partner with 3 children drove it down all the way from Gladstone (400km) and surprised him with it..... it's a very special first car.  His gift from us was a couple of professional driving lessons.

Righto, Gotto Go.... I need to draw out the next lot of sashiko blocks....  have a lovely rest of the weekend....

First week of May

Another block towards my Caswell quilt is done...

So that is 9/30 blocks done (if I do them all)

This week I had my second Shingles vaccination...... and on the next day I felt really foul so I stayed quiet at home and did a bit of embroidery....

I managed to finish this flower in between naps and tea .....

Feeling much better but for the ache in the arm and a second flower is done, I am up to date (until tonight when the next one drops!), although there is still quite a bit of the vine still to do...

I had my garment sewing day on Sunday and finished off making a shirt for Hubz.... our tutor April drew up the pattern for me from one of his favourite shirts

It's a blue denim colour made in a poplin

My mistake was putting the buttons and buttonholes on the wrong sides! Duh.... He's a good sport and still wore in proudly when we went into town!

I even put a label on it!!! haha

April (our tutor) helped me make alterations to this jacket pattern (my bust and butt fit different sizes and the armhole was too tight).  So I have made up my fake one and the fit is good so next month I hope to be working on this jacket which I am making from this quilt (made for daughter 15 years ago but she likes different colours now so it's going to be chopped up for me)

I did do some quilting and binding on this very patient quilt from long ago ....

This one is from a pattern by the late Rosalie Decker and is called Flowerville - made in Tilda fabrics and I think it is so lovely and pretty.....

I had some pretty backing leftovers I could join to make it fit

I quilted the backgrounds differently, wriggles for the pink and cross hatch for that yummy mushroom colour

Lots of little dresden plate pieces go round the different embroideries...

I did love doing this one.... took me too long to finish off due to other distractions!!

.... of course a new crochet blanket has been started for the evenings.  I was going to make a cot blanket but this lovely soft chenille type yarn has some bits of bling in it and I am finding little pieces all around my house.... it won't do for a baby blanket so I am making a bigger one....  pink, white and grey.... (you can spot a few shiny pieces in the picture)

That's my lot for the week, seems like lots but mostly it was just finishing off things that had been started  last month...

Have a lovely weekend, it's Mothers Day here so BBQ lunch for me with dessert by DD

Righto, Gotto Go......xx

Beginning of May

I am doing a bit of a catch up post here.....

Susan and I are sewing Be My Neighbour together this year..... - here are Aprils blocks (Susan's blocks are HERE)

I am using 1930's style fabrics for mine.... (not sure I like the multicoloured one above)

I am sewing Floral Fun with the Brisbane Sunday Stitchers....  these are my 2 blocks for April

I had these squares all cut out from fat quarters gathered in the clubs Community Quilters stash....  this week I had a couple of quiet days at home so I sewed them all together....

In between the blocks I have been trying to keep up with my scrap project using it for Leaders and Enders....

I had cut up a heap of scraps last year to tidy up....

These scrappy stars are beginning to take shape....  I have to admit I am a bit in love with them....

Over the last few months I have had these little stitcheries as a 'pick up and go' when I haven't got anything sorted for a sewing day....

I finished these 6 and I will make them up into little needlecases for our sales table at Embroidery Guild later this year...

My pink crochet blanket is finished... this is 1 x 1.2 metres - KOGO have requested cot blankets so this will go to them....

It's a soft chenille type feel and I just did treble bunches in lines

On a trip to UK a few years ago I took grandy-girls some preprinted Mandalas and thread to try embroidery together...

Chloe finished hers and sent it as a gift to me in a frame...... I Love it .... the picture is a bit blurry but the colours are nice and bold...

Righto, Gotto Go.....  I'm dressmaking tomorrow so need to get my supplies ready....

Have a lovely weekend....xx
